It's March! While we are waiting for Spring weather to arrive, we decided to get into the St. Patrick's Day spirit and create some 3D Rainbow Paintings. These paintings were both fun and easy- putting us in a sunshiney mood!
To make a 3D Rainbow Painting, just follow these 3 simple steps:
1. Use bottle glue to create a rainbow shape. Sprinkle salt onto the glue while it is still wet. Shake off excess salt.
2. Let dry to keep salt in place.
3. Using watercolors to paint along the 3d surface using a rainbow of colors. To finish off the painting, add cotton ball clouds to both ends of the rainbow.
My little 2 and 3 year olds really enjoyed painting on this project. I loved that the glue/salt lines created a barrier when painting and they loved painting on a bumpy surface, as opposed to just flat paper. I also felt like the lines guided the kids to paint with purpose, rather than just free-painting. Even though this might have been a guided activity, each rainbow picture was very unique!
