I have been seeing slime recipes all around, there are some really great ones! But, every recipe I found takes Borax, or something I didn't have on hand. I needed easy, no going to the store, easy! I remember reading somewhere that cornstarch and water mixed made a good slime and wouldn't you know, Sid the Science Kid came on the TV and he made the slime I was thinking of! They also added green paint. Here is the slime recipe seen on Sid from the PBS Kids website.
When I made it, I found that the slime was very watery. So, I added more cornstarch. The recipe states 1 cup cornstarch and 1 cup water. I did more like 1 3/4 to 2 cups cornstarch and loved the consistancy, especially aftter it sat for awhile. The kids had so much fun with this slime. My two year old son sat and played for almost 30 minutes! Truth be told, I enjoyed this mixture too! It is amazing sensory experience!
As you might be able to tell from the pictures, this slime is not mess free. Check out the snapshot of my little man below... he had it everywhere! But, lucky for me, it was super easy to clean up. I used washable paint when adding the green paint, so this was super easy to wash.
Was the mess worth it? You better believe it! I even put the slime into a tub with a lid to save for later. I am not exactly sure how well slime keeps, but I guess I will find out! Have you ever made slime? Halloween time is the perfect time!
